California's Best Foodie Destinations

Damian Gadal

One of the best ways to explore the world is through eating. Anyone who likes to try new food enjoys having new experiences when they visit somewhere they've never been to before. Some people put a lot more emphasis on their culinary experiences than others. They might even label themselves as "foodies". Foodies often choose their vacation destinations based on where they can eat well. They want to spend their time munching their way through a new city. There are many wonderful places to go for excellent food, from Japan to South Africa. Even though America has a reputation for unhealthy food, the country has a lot to offer. California, in particular, has lots of great foodie destinations.

Ojai

Ojai is a favorite location for a leisurely weekend getaway. You can take your time to explore, and it won't feel like the weekend is slipping away from you faster than you want. It's a great destination if you're looking for some quality restaurants. Some of the best-rated places range from organic food to traditional Italian establishments. In fact, Ojai has a reputation for healthy food. So if you're looking for some incredible salads or a healthy breakfast, Ojai is the place to go. But don't worry if health food isn't your thing. You'll also be able to get a delicious pizza, Mexican food or some traditional American fare.

Monterey

There are lots of places in California that are famed for their seafood. The state has a long coastline, so naturally there's a lot of fresh fish. If you visit the city of Monterey, you'll find some incredible places to eat. For the freshest of fresh seafood, the historic Fisherman's Wharf is where you should go. This is where you'll discover the restaurants in Monterey that have stunning views to match their delicious food. You can look out at the water as you eat your dinner and drink your wine.

San Luis Obispo

Some travelers like to have an eclectic range of restaurants to choose from. The food in San Luis Obispo isn't as upmarket as you might find in other locations. But it does offer you a lot of choice so that you won't be limited to a few different cuisines. You can find some incredible locally sourced ingredients, lots of comfort food and some friendly service too. You can also discover some locations that are full of character. You'll find everything from Cajun to Asian.

San Francisco

Not everyone likes to spend their vacation time in large cities. However, there's no doubt that it's the big cities that offer the most choice. Sometimes that means there are more bad restaurants to avoid, but often there are more quality ones to balance it out. If you want Michelin-starred dining, you can find it in San Francisco. There are four restaurants with the maximum three stars in 2015.

California is an excellent place to visit for anyone who loves food. You could discover a new favorite destination if you see one of these locations.
